Packaging, Brand identity, Presentations

Flour and mălai packaging that puts Romanian origin up front.

Packaging refresh for HORA flour and mălai, a 'Produs în România' badge, product lettering and brand collateral for Galați miller Combavipor.

Flour and mălai packaging that puts Romanian origin up front.

The challenge

Combavipor has milled flour and mălai in Galați since 1999 and sells them under the HORA brand. The starting point was the existing HORA logo and a plain kraft bag. The brief was to refresh the identity around the mark customers already know and give the products packaging that holds its own on a supermarket shelf.

The insight

Keep the logo people recognise and let origin do the selling: a 'Produs în România' heart and folk motifs on the front of the bag.

The approach

Our designers worked from the client's own assets, the HORA wordmark and a photo of the current bag. The Mălai Superior bag set the system, a yellow cornfield gradient with red script lettering, which then extended to the wheat-flour bags, with new lettering for every product name and a heart-shaped badge for Romanian origin. The same visual language carried into the brand's everyday materials, handed over as final and editable files.

Process

How we got there.

Discover — Start from what exists

The client's HORA wordmark and a photo of the current kraft bag set the baseline: keep the mark, change the shelf presence.

The existing bag

Before: the old HORA kraft flour bag with folk-motif borders and a red ribbon, next to the client's HORA wordmark file.

Design — Packaging rounds

The Mălai Superior bag went through successive versions, a yellow cornfield gradient with red script, before the system extended to the flour bags.

Mălai Superior, from v1 to final

Three rounds of the HORA Mălai pack: two early pouch versions with calligraphic 'Mălai' and different polenta photos, and the later bag with red script lettering and the Produs în România badge.

Design — Lettering and origin badge

Script lettering for product names and a heart-shaped 'Produs în România' badge that works on every bag.

Lettering set and badge

Lettering exploration sheet: two rows of script product names for Făină and Mălai, and drafts of the 'Produs în România' badge with a hand-drawn heart in red, yellow and blue.

Deliver — Collateral and handover

Tote bag, apron, desk calendar and notepad with the HORA mark and a folk-embroidery border, then final and editable files with a font report.

Brand materials deck

HORA brand materials as three tiles: a canvas tote with the wordmark, a desk calendar and a pair of notepads.
Front view of the HORA Făină albă superioară 000 bag: red HORA wordmark, dark calligraphic 'Făină', and a sliced cozonac on a wooden table against a wheat field.
HORA Făină albă de grâu 650 bag in kraft paper: red HORA wordmark, calligraphic 'Făină', the number 650 and a sliced loaf of bread.
Flat print artwork of the HORA Mălai bag: the HORA wordmark, Produs în România badge and red script 'Mălai superior degerminat' on the front and both side panels, over a yellow cornfield and a round of polenta.
Flat print artwork of the HORA Făină albă superioară 000 bag: the HORA wordmark on the front and both sides, calligraphic 'Făină', and a cozonac on a wooden table in front of a wheat field.
HORA product-name lettering: black script 'Făină' and 'Mălai' above small caps for 650, 000, superior degerminat, 1350 and măciniș integral, with the 'Produs în România' script badge and a heart in the Romanian colours.
HORA canvas tote bag with the red HORA wordmark and the Produs în România badge.
HORA canvas tote bag with red folk-embroidery borders and the line 'Tradiția nu se uită. Se macină.'
Two cream kitchen aprons with the red HORA wordmark and a band of red folk-embroidery motifs across the pocket.
HORA desk calendar open on April: a red header with the HORA wordmark, the month grid and a red folk-embroidery border.
Two HORA notepads on a light grey surface with a red pencil: a lined to-do pad with an embroidery header and a pad with the HORA wordmark over a field.

Results

What it added up to.

HORA's mălai and wheat flours now share one shelf presence: the mark customers know, a script name for every product and Romanian origin on the front of every bag. The brand materials carry the same language, delivered as final and editable files in May 2025.
